Who are the San Francisco Neo-Futurists?

If you don’t already know us, welcome! We are a critically-renowned collective of theater artists who’ve performed our flagship show, The Infinite Wrench, in San Francisco every weekend for over a decade. We make magic happen on a tight turnaround every single week, and we’ve been doing it for a long time. We’re glad you’re here :)

We practice non-illusory theater, meaning we don’t play characters or act out imaginary scenarios. Everything we do onstage is real, and we are always performing as ourselves. Authenticity and genuine connection are the cornerstones of our practice. We’re experts in storytelling, collaboration, and improv and in our workshops, we teach groups how to leverage these skills for improved team work, communication and problem solving (or art, if that’s what you’re into).

What makes this different than other Bay Area improv workshops?

We teach familiar improv skills like teamwork, active listening and dealing with “failure” without losing your cool, but because we don’t play characters in our show, we bring a unique expertise in how to show up as yourself in a high-pressure context, creating powerful connections based on trust and authenticity.

Long before the concept of vulnerability was popularized as a necessary social and professional skill, the Neo-Futurists in San Francisco and elsewhere already knew the power of authentic and vulnerable self-expression for creating real, lasting connections with collaborators and audience members alike. Are Neo-Futurist theater workshops appropriate for kids or teens?

Yes! We work with schools, nonprofits and other organizations to bring fun, creative and age-appropriate theater workshops to kids and teens in 5th grade and up.
